Alaska surprise billing and federal protections
The federal No Surprises Act protects Alaska patients from many out-of-network "surprise" bills for emergency care and certain in-network-facility services. Many states layer additional protections on top — Alaska has its own consumer protection mechanisms through the Alaska Attorney General's Consumer Protection Unit.
If you received a surprise bill that violates the No Surprises Act, you have the right to dispute it through the federal Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) process, which is free for the patient. Counter Gameplan organizes all of this into a clean, professional letter for you.
