Montana surprise billing and federal protections
The federal No Surprises Act protects Montana patients from many out-of-network "surprise" bills for emergency care and certain in-network-facility services. Many states layer additional protections on top — Montana has its own consumer protection mechanisms through the Montana Attorney General's Consumer Protection Office.
If you received a surprise bill that violates the No Surprises Act, you have the right to dispute it through the federal Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) process, which is free for the patient. Counter Gameplan turns that into a ready-to-send letter in about 60 seconds.
