Oklahoma surprise billing and federal protections
The federal No Surprises Act protects Oklahoma patients from many out-of-network "surprise" bills for emergency care and certain in-network-facility services. Many states layer additional protections on top — Oklahoma has its own consumer protection mechanisms through the Oklahoma Attorney General's Consumer Protection Unit.
If you received a surprise bill that violates the No Surprises Act, you have the right to dispute it through the federal Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) process, which is free for the patient. Counter Gameplan turns that into a ready-to-send letter in about 60 seconds.
