New Jersey nursing home oversight
Nursing home care in New Jersey is overseen by a combination of state and federal agencies. The New Jersey Long-Term Care Ombudsman is your first call — they're a free, confidential advocacy program with the authority to investigate complaints and work directly with facilities.
Federal CMS (Medicare/Medicaid) also enforces facility-level standards for any home that accepts those payments — which is the vast majority of facilities in New Jersey.
